Movement Coach for Life After PT
My name is Mario. Nice to meet you! My job title may be called a personal trainer, or, as I prefer, I’m an active life professional–but that just scratches the surface of what I do. My goal is to find out what’s holding you back from what you love, whether that’s training for a marathon, healing from a physical injury, or just bending down to pick up your kids and grandkids.
“Working out shouldn’t be a punishment. It should be nourishment.”
And it should begin where you’re at.
My own journey began in high school when, as a running back and strong safety, I hyperextended my knee playing football. After that, I stopped playing. Familiar story? When I recovered, that injury taught me just how daunting starting over can be.
It all fell into place when my first daughter was on the way—I wanted to serve my family as the healthiest version of myself at all fitness levels. I started training again, dialed in nutrition effectively (a journey in itself), and lost weight while getting physically strong and sober.
How I Became a Personal Trainer in Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo
In 2017, my passion transformed into a career, beginning with a local gym as a personal trainer in Oxnard. I got certified with NASM, was promoted to head trainer in three facilities in Ventura County—Camarillo, Ventura, and Oxnard—and never looked back. I completed Dr. John Rusin’s Pain-Free Performance Specialist program and then completed an intense 13-month Active Life Professional mentorship to better bridge the gap between physical therapy and real-life fitness.
These programs have given me the tools I needed to help people move safely after injury. That's exactly what I want to provide for you.
First of all, I want to be your trainer: the trainer that meets you first after you’re cleared by your physical therapist to return to working out. The trainer you can trust to keep you training properly and safely in the gym. I meet you exactly as you are— no intimidating group classes, no moves that discourage your progress. We work on personalized exercises for your pain-free movement. I want you to build off of actual strength that you can do, and provide you some new guidance so that eventually you can return to doing the things you love.
Weight loss or other goals are often a natural outcome once you start feeling capable and confident.
I’ve worked with a 91-year-old client to change her reliance on her walker and regain her strength. I’ve helped grandparents, who weren’t equipped to watch their grandkids as a caretaker, build their confidence to not only keep up with their grandkids, but even run after them to keep them safe. I have coached through major spinal/hip surgeries so my clients can stand up and sit down without that familiar hunch. I’ve created personal training sessions through the aftermath of heart surgery with safe, monitored training, and helped women prepare their bodies for pregnancy after years of being infertile.
If you’re ready to leave the recovery phase behind and train with someone who cares more about what’s going to help you meet your goals than pushing you past your limits, we should talk. Whether we talk face-to-face or through the help of video conferencing, let’s work together towards your fitness goals.
